I work in abandoned fortune cookie factory in Chinatown an wander the city by night collecting detritus for my next monster or creature creation. Smells of vanilla, almond extract, and bergamot tea fill the room while dirt, glitter and stuffing carpet the cold wood floor. Welcome to the circus, this is my atelier
I was born in Pennsylvania farm country, Lancaster County to be exact. My father is a high school social studies teacher and my mother sews as well as does different crafts. My approach to art making and love of history--art history in particular-- stems from my parents' influence. A personal love of crafting grew from exposure to our county's famous quilts and many an afternoon spent at various antique stores. College years led me to Brooklyn where I studied art at Pratt. College summers found me in Maine working at an arts camp.
I am an eclectic artist who works in costume design, visual merchandising, floral design, candle making, painting, and drawing. Whatever the medium, my art is dramatic, graphic, and with a flair for color. Each piece is dark and surreal. Strong women are my muses they both actively inspire and appear in my work.
